Short Bio

Mr. Kevin Miller, Jr., is the Founder and Managing Director for Hakata Consulting, a Hakata Group company, a company he started in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, in  2009.  He formed Hakata to help foreign invested companies come up with technology and security solutions for their operations in Vietnam.

In 2007, Kevin formed SLG Vscapeone Co. Ltd., an IT consulting and market advisory company.  Kevin served as IT Director for the Horizon International Bilingual School in HCMC.  His past employers in Vietnam include: American International School, APU International School, Indochina Capital, Mekong Securities, Saigon Institute of Technology, Center for International Education (Vietnam National University – HCM) and SEAMEO RETRAC, SME Securities, and The American School of Vietnam.  (View some of the clients and companies Kevin has assisted and consulted for in Vietnam.)

Kevin has 32 years experience with computers including 11 years as a web developer and 7 years as a BSD/Linux system administrator.  He has practical experience using computer programming languages including Perl/CGI  and PHP. He is very interested in helping businesses migrate from propriety to open source technology (servers, operating systems, telephone systems, etc.) to help cut technology operating costs.  In 2007, Kevin was featured in CNET’sVietnam a crouching Tiger” where he talked about the emerging market for open source software in Vietnam.

Kevin holds a Master of Public Affairs from Indiana University – Bloomington  (2003)  where he studied Comparative & International Affairs, Information Systems, and Nonprofit Management.  He earned his Double Degree Bachelor of Arts (American Ethnic Studies and Sociology) from the University of Washington (Seattle, USA) in 1996.  Kevin has over 10 years experience living overseas (Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Turkey and Vietnam) and can communicate in Japanese, Kazakh, Russian and some Vietnamese.  He has resided in Vietnam since May, 2004.

Kevin is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (Kazakhstan) and Former U.S. Marine Corps Reservist.
